Following a Microsoft licensing change on 16 April 2026, the basic Copilot included with our school licence is no longer available inside the Office desktop and web apps.

What has changed

The Copilot sidebar and drafting buttons no longer appear inside:

• Word (drafting and summarising)
• Excel (data analysis and formulas)
• PowerPoint (slide generation)
• OneNote (note organisation)
• Outlook (drafting and summarising)

Microsoft has moved in-app Copilot to its paid premium tier for large organisations worldwide.

How you can still use Copilot

• Copilot on the web: go to copilot.microsoft.com, signed in with your school Microsoft account.
• Edge sidebar: click the Copilot icon at the top right of Microsoft Edge.
• Your files: use the + button in the Copilot chat to attach OneDrive or SharePoint files and ask questions about them.
• Drafting: draft in the Copilot chat, then copy the result into your document.
